Red is the new Purple

Each season I seem to gravitate towards a color. Last spring/summer it was purple. Purple carried me into fall and stayed with me in the winter. I think I look great in purple. I change my hair color quite a bit. I go from bright blonde in the spring/summer to my current color of light brown. Puple seems to flater both colors.

That is why I was suprised that when I was scanning my favorite websites I seemed to ditch purple and go for red. Red was my go-to color a few years ago, and like purple, it seems to really flatter me. I always seem to get a lot of compliments when I'm wearing red. Even my Dad gives me compliments and he does not give them out freely. :)

I bought three items last week and they came in the mail today. All three are from Old Navy.

The first is the puffy sleeve top. I love the scoop neck on me, but I'm not sure of the sleeves. They hit at a weird place on my upper arm. I'll have to try it on again, but I think it is going back, or maybe a size up would be better.

The second is very out of character for me. When I tried it on, I instantly liked it. It has elastic around the waist, so it hides my post baby belly, but isn't so baggy that it makes me look like I am expecting again. The V-neck is not too low, so no need for a cami under which is nice in warmer weather when layering out of the question.

The third is the spring jacket. I love the classic look of it. It is a bit darker khaki in person, but is still nice. I'll have to get used to the belt, but it will add a bit of polish to an otherwise casual spring outfit.

Now all I need is the weather to warm up so I can wear them!

Headband

My headband arrived and I love it! I think I'm going to try and get crafty and make some on my own.

Wanted:Feathers

Over the summer I saw a woman with a feathered headband. I was instantly in love! I have been looking at feathered headbands for a while on Etsy and I thinkI'm going to take the plunge and get a few.

I like this one from ubercake:

I also like this one from Lisa Kathryn Designs:

I'll post a pic when I get them. I think they are fun and add a bit of whimsy to an otherwise classic outfit.

What odd item are you yearning for this winter?

Scarves

I noticed while I was at the mall that almost every store is stocked with lightweight scarves. I always like the idea of a scarf with an outfit, but I always feel very silly wearing one.

I don't think that it helps that I really don't know what kind of top I'm supposed to wear under it. Crew Neck? V-Neck? Pattern?

Here is a scarf I found at Gap that I love. Any outfit suggestions?

Cross It Off the List

Last weekend I was finally able to go shopping, by myself! I hardly ever go shopping without the kids, so it was a nice treat.

I was able to get a couple of items off my list. I really wanted a pair of red shoes. I wasn't sure how much I would wear them, so I wanted to get a cheaper pair. If I did end up wearing them, I could always trade up for a better pair. I decided to check-out Payless to see if they had anything. I found this pair.

I have worn them once already, I must say they are really comfortable. I am already trying to plan outfits around them because I think they are so cute!

The next stop was Aldo. I had looked on their website and saw a few pairs that I liked. I tried on a few pairs, and decided on these.

I like the buckle design. I also think they can be dressed up or worn with a more casual outfit. Here is a bigger picture.

I also bought a pair of skinny jeans to wear with my boots. When I got them home, I realized that I had accidently bought the regular length instead of the short length. So, those must go back.

Overall, it was a good trip. I tried on a lot of shoes and jeans, but was very picky because I had my list.

Boots

I was reading the forums on You Look Fab last night and noticed a lot of outfits that had knee high boots. I have wanted a pair for a while now, but I'm not sure that I can pull them off.

Can shorter women wear such tall boots? It's hard to tell from online photos exactly how tall someone is in real life, so I'm never sure. Each time I have wanted to try a pair on, I have had my daughter with me and she has no patience for such things.

I found two pair online that I like. The first pair are the Zigi Soho Cambridge Leather Boot from DSW. I like that they are simple and could be worn for many season. The second pair are the Hymana from Aldo. I love love love the buckles on these!

So, what the verdict, good for short (5'3") women or not?

Decisions, Decisions

Shoe Options by ClassicRedesign

Since I couldn't go shopping today I decided to browse the internet for some new shoes. I have bought shoes from Zappos before and the customer service is excellent.

I have narrowed my choices down to these two reds (very different, but I can only get one) and these three black. I decided to go with flats for both shoes because I know I will wear them more.

Which shoes do you like?

Shopping Trip

This weekend I wanted to go to the mall to get an idea of what is in the stores and also to get a few items on my list. Those plans were changed because our daughter started to potty-train on Friday. We are now bound to the house for the next few days. I will however be checking out some websites today and of course, feeding my Etsy addiction.

Hopefully I can get out of the house next weekend for some fun shopping.

New Years Eve 2008

This year we spent New Years Eve with 5 other families at a friends house. It was a lot of fun that included a great meal, great kids (running around like crazy), and lots of fun with the Wii.

I wore this Liz Claiborne sweater that I received as a gift for Christmas. It is very out of character for me, because I hardly ever wear stripes.

The jeans are Old Navy Sweetheart (Short) jeans. I loved them the first time I wore them, but they seem to stretch out with each wear and never really regain their shape.

The boots are my stand-by black book from Nine West. They are low heel, and always seem to be what I choose.
